Richard Flack, 91, of Denver, N.C. (formerly of Indiana), passed away surrounded by family, on Monday, April 16, 2024.
He was born July 14, 1932, in Clune (formerly known as Coal Run), the son of Edward Flack and Mary Jane Wasylink. He was one of four siblings. He married his wife, Patricia, on Aug. 30, 1958; she preceded him in death on Sept. 9, 2022.
Rich was a U.S. Army veteran, volunteering for the draft in 1954. He became a paratrooper at Fort Bragg, N.C., serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. After the military, he attended Penn State Forestry School. He also played the trumpet in a band. He worked as a mine safety inspector for R&P Coal. He served as president of the Indiana District Council, Holmes Safety Association from 1980-1991. He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and exploring the wilderness. He especially loved spending time with his five grandchildren.
Rich is survived by his three brothers, Edward, of Westfield, N.J., Robert, of Indiana, and Jerry (Linda), of Homer City; three children: Raymond Flack, Laura Tieber and husband Joe, and Tricia Theodore and husband Tom; and five grandchildren: Brianna Tieber, Julia Tieber, Dominique Theodore, Marissa Theodore and Joseph Tieber III.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 11:00am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church Denver, NC. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to your local humane society.
